Anderson Valley Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout

Anderson Valley Brewing Co.
Boonville, CA

Grade: A-
ABV: 5.7%
Style: Oatmeal Stout
Serve in: English pint

Pours a very thick and dark black and leaves a one-finger creamy, beige head that lingers for a long time. I let it rest for a while because it looked like it would leave some very nice lacing. (It did.) The aroma is very sweet; a blend of chocolate and full-bodied, roasted coffee.

The first thing that you react too while tasting this beer is how silky smooth it is. Its flavor is rich with chocolate, coffee and hop oils;  absolutely no burnt tastes, but nothing incredibly complex either. A solid bitterness allows the chocolate and coffee to linger on after you finish your sip. It has a medium body, though at times, a slightly thin feel, but a perfect level of creaminess makes up for it.

I just can’t even describe how easy this beer is to drink. It is delicious and you want to just down it in one gulp. I really wish I had a couple more of these because one is simply not enough. Barney Flats Oatmeal Stuff receives an A-! A truly great American oatmeal stout.
